Discussion topic for D&R's Canadian Blends - Flue-cured Blends with Canadian Leaf and Varietal Flavor

  • Penhooker
A smooth and flavorful Canadian style Virginia blend with a regular American cut. Special leaf selection and blending give this delightful classic blend its regional character and charm. Contains 100% flue-cured Gold Leaf tobaccos with about one-half Canadian leaf. Casings added.

  • Penhooker Light
A light bodied, yet smooth and flavorful Canadian style Virginia blend with a regular American cut. Special leaf selection and blending give this delightful light blend its regional character and charm. Contains 100% flue-cured Gold Leaf tobaccos with about one-third Canadian leaf. Casings added.

Come to think of it though, wouldnt Pennhooker more accurately be called a Canadian "styled" blend? It does contain more US grown Virginia than Canadian I believe. Doesnt that make it an American or US blended Canadian style? What percentage of Canadian leaf do you "very picky" smokers require to label a blend authentic Canadian? Just curious, maybe others are as well. :?

The Penhooker lable states: A smooth and flavorful Canadian Style Virginia blend with a regular American cut. Contains 100% flue cured Gold Leaf tobaccos, including around 45% Canadian leaf. Casings added. Good stuff, I keep it on hand all the time.

I really enjoy Penhooker, it reminds me of Du Marier cigarettes which are made in canada. I used to get those once in a while since they ran $7 a pack, now I can afford to smoke something that tastes similar but far superior and cheaper (thank you D&R!). Every now and then I smoke this blend exclusively for a day, and it always cures my Du Marier craving.

Hey watadork, glad you're enjoying Pennhooker so much. For those of us who never tried it or that brand of cigarette how does it differ from the more popular Va's such as Windsail or Danish Export?

Well I have only tried Windsail Platinum, so my experience with other straight virginias is quite limited. But the difference that I found is that Penhoooker has a tang that hits your tongue as you inhale. Also it tastes much lighter in body than Windsail Platinum. I think it is the canadian leaf that gives it those unique traits. It also has more of a nicotine kick imo than windsail platinum, especially first thing in the morning (that is usually how I judge the nicotine). I hope this helps in some way. Someone might disagree with me, but that's what keeps this site alive :winker:

Thanks wata, it's been a long time since I had any but do remember I liked it. I think I'm gonna toss some in on my next order, if I can remember.

This is pretty much exact to Players tobacco I have smoked them side by side and can not tell the difference. If that helps

This is a very nice blend, similar to Windsail Plat but different enough to add a little variety. I think I'll get a bag of this around for that very reason and vary things up a little. That makes 3 killer Va's from DnR for under $20 each.
